Granbury

Welcome to Granbury, TX! Granbury is a small town rich in unique culture, deep Texas history, and southern hospitality. Located in Hood County, 35 miles southwest of Fort Worth. Granbury, TX was Voted USA Today’s Best Historic Small Town in America in 2019 and 2020.

Granbury started as a square and log cabin courthouse. Many of the buildings on the square are now registered historic landmarks, including the Granbury Opera House, which still hosts Broadway productions. 

A recent expansion of the city was made possible by building the Brazos River’s dam in 1969, which formed Lake Granbury, a long, narrow lake that flows through the city.

Granbury is served by the Granbury Independent School District [GISD]. Granbury ISD outperforms the region and state with an impressive 98% graduation rate. Granbury High School has been lauded by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top schools in state and nation for college and career readiness based on demographics, college entrance exams, and advanced courses.

Over the last four years, Granbury High School graduates received almost $22.1 million in scholarship awards to help finance their post-high school education. Students have been accepted all over the country including Big 12 schools, Division I universities throughout the nation, and military service academies.

During the 2018-19 school year, Granbury High School students completed 2,023 college hours through a dual credit program with Weatherford College. Students are maximizing their opportunities and building strong college transcripts while still in high school. GHS also offers Advanced Placement and other classes that can lead to college credit.
