Welcome to Denton, TX! Denton is a city in and the county seat of Denton County. With an estimated population of 141,541 as of 2019, it is the 24th-most populous city in Texas, the 188th-most populous city in the United States, and the 12th-most populous city in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex.

Throughout its history, Denton has been known as a university town, home to two state universities, the University of North Texas and Texas Woman’s University. With a combined enrollment of over 50,000 students, the universities bring in a variety of cultural, sports, and entertainment amenities to the Denton community. In downtown Denton and just south of Denton is a campus for North Central Texas College, the oldest continuously operating two-year college in Texas.
Denton Independent School District [DISD] provides the public primary and secondary educational system in the city. The district comprises four comprehensive high schools (Braswell, Denton, Guyer, and Ryan), one alternative high school, and multiple elementary and middle schools. Denton Independent School District serves more than 27,000 students and 17 cities in a 180 square-mile district. Small portions of the city extend into the Argyle and Sanger school districts. Denton is also host to several private schools with religious affiliations and alternative education models.
