Newark

Welcome to Newark, TX! Located in Tarrant and Wise Counties, the city of Newark, Texas has a population of 1,203 and provides a range of municipal services including Fire, Parks and Recreation, Library, and Public Works. Newark is located just 25 miles south of Decatur and 23 miles east of Fort Worth. The City is home to the Newark Volunteer Fire Department and contracts with the Wise County Sheriff’s Office for law enforcement services. 

According to the Handbook of Texas, settlement began in the mid-1850s, referring to the community as Caddo Village because of numerous remnants of the Caddo Indian culture found along the banks of the West Fork of the Trinity River. After the Rock Island Railroad reached the town in 1893, officials surveyed town lots; the community was named after Newark, New Jersey, perhaps the hometown of G. K. Foster, the civil engineer who helped survey the town. 

Newark is served by the Northwest Independent School District [NISD]. Located in the northwest area of the DFW metroplex, the Northwest Independent School District has a vision of empowering learners and leaders to positively impact the world. At 234 square miles, Northwest ISD is one of the largest school districts in the area and spans three counties (Tarrant, Denton, and Wise) and 14 municipalities. NISD operates 20 elementary schools, six middle schools, three comprehensive high schools and one accelerated high school.
